Terms
of use

Last updated: 14 September 2026 · Applies to: CardSync for Google Photos

These terms are the agreement between you and BitesizeBureau for your use of CardSync. By installing or using the app you accept them. If you do not, please do not use it.

1. What CardSync is

CardSync is a macOS application that copies photos and videos from a memory card to the Google Photos library of the Google account you sign in to. It keeps a local record of what it has uploaded so that the same file is not sent twice.

It runs on your Mac. We operate no server, hold no account for you, and never receive your photographs.

2. What CardSync is not

It is not a backup service, and not an archive

CardSync is a tool that copies files to Google Photos on your instruction. Once a file reaches Google, it is Google's service — and your Google account settings — that determine whether it is kept, compressed, or removed. We have no access to it and cannot recover it for you.

Photographs are irreplaceable. Keep at least one copy that does not depend on us or on any single service.

3. How duplicate detection works, and its limits

CardSync avoids re-uploading by remembering what it has already sent. Because Google's API provides no way to ask what a library already contains, that record is the app's only knowledge. Two consequences follow, and you should understand both:

  • Anything you put into Google Photos by another route — a phone backup, the web uploader, another tool — is invisible to CardSync and may be uploaded again.
  • If you clear the upload history, the next import treats every card as new and sends everything on it again.

Duplicate detection is offered on a best-efforts basis. It is careful by design, and deliberately errs towards uploading a file it is unsure about rather than discarding one, but we do not warrant that it will never miss a duplicate.

4. Your Google account

CardSync needs you to sign in to a Google account and grant it permission to add media to your library. That relationship is between you and Google, governed by Google's Terms of Service. Uploads count against your Google storage, and running out of storage is between you and Google.

You can withdraw CardSync's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.

CardSync is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Google.

5. Licence

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to install and use CardSync on Macs you own or control, for as long as these terms are observed. You may not redistribute or resell it, rent it out, or present it as your own product.

We keep all intellectual property in the app. Nothing here transfers ownership of it to you.

Where CardSync is obtained through the Mac App Store, Apple's own licence terms apply in addition to these, and prevail over them to the extent they conflict.

6. What you need

  • macOS 14 or later.
  • A Google account with space available in Google Photos.
  • An internet connection.

7. Price, payment and refunds

The price is whatever is shown at the point of sale before you buy. Where you bought through the Mac App Store, payment and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's terms, and refund requests go to Apple rather than to us.

Where you bought directly from us, you have the statutory cancellation rights available to consumers under UK law. If the app does not do what we have said it does, tell us and we will refund you.

8. Your responsibilities

  • Only upload material you have the right to upload.
  • Do not use CardSync unlawfully, or to handle material that is unlawful to possess or distribute.
  • Keep your Mac and your Google account secure. Anyone with access to your unlocked Mac can use CardSync's stored authorisation.

9. Updates and changes

We may issue updates, and may change or withdraw features. CardSync depends on Google's Photos API, which Google controls and has changed before; if Google withdraws or restricts the ability to add media, parts of the app may stop working through no act of ours. We will say so plainly if that happens.

10. What we do and do not promise

We take real care with this app and we will fix what we can. But it is provided as it is: we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted, that it will suit a particular purpose of yours, or that it will be free of defects.

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that cannot be taken away. In the UK that includes your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 — digital content must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. Where anything here conflicts with those rights, those rights win.

11. Limits on liability

We do not exclude or limit our liability where the law does not allow it — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Subject to that, and to your consumer rights above:

  • We are not liable for loss of, or damage to, photographs or other data, however it arises. This is why section 2 asks you to keep an independent copy.
  • We are not liable for anything Google does or fails to do with your library, for changes to Google's service, or for your Google storage costs.
  • We are not liable for loss of profit, business, or opportunity.
  • Where we are liable, our total liability is limited to what you paid for the app.

12. Ending this agreement

You may stop using CardSync at any time by deleting it. We may end your licence if you breach these terms materially. On ending, the licence in section 5 stops; the limits in sections 10 and 11 continue to apply to what happened beforehand.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when, and the previous version stays in the site's git history. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes, and continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it. If you do not, stop using the app.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the right to bring proceedings in your own country.
